SMC is definitely what you make of it. I had to ask around a lot and I found tons of resources to help me, but it wasn't always easy to find them. Step up and look out for yourself and do your schoolwork well and you can have a great experience here. If you just show up and expect the college to be amazing, it probably won't be so fun.

Good school but expect to sit in classes and do not ask any questions bc insecure instructors will think you are challenging them instead of trying to learn. Beware of the homeless. You will be treated like a high school student instead of an adult college student.

The Veterans department at this school might as well be non existent. Never answers the phone or replies to emails. Lack of communication and organization from admissions to financial aid to counselors. The school will mess up on a lot of paperwork causing you to owe money or be dropped from class. No one is ever on the same page.

Only school I've ever heard of where you can't take certain classes concurrently. As a pre nursing major, you are required to take Engl 1 before Anatomy? Then Anatomy BEFORE Physiology and THEN you can take Microbiology. Most schools offer these courses concurrently. Waste of time and seems as if they're just trying to get more money from students.

The best part i liked about this school was the programs. Such as the black collegians, the staff their were always nice, and willing to help people. The professors arent the greatest but youll run into some amazing ones. Overall Ill say its a solid community college

Don't go here. There are so many better options. . Most of the professors suck. The good ones, are always full (bc obviously), admin is absolutely atrocious. They will definitely mess ur transcripts up. They keep you in prerequisite classes so that they can leech more money off of you. BEWARE!!

My experience at SMC has been so wonderful. The BEST professors (so many have their PhD's) and really cutting edge with their courses. The Recycling and Resource Management classes are unique to SMC. They have an amazing Journalism department as well, I highly recommend getting involved with The Corsair. SMC feels like home!

The opportunities at the school are incomparable to any other. I have attended public and private schools and universities and SMC is by far the best. I have learned more from the fashion program than I have ever thought, and the support from the career center and all the staff is incredible. Very easy to get help on anything school related or not

I like how the school tries their best to make sure everyone has what they need. food, water, housing, jobs. while providing a variety of different teachers, who teach also at the universities . i have had a good experience

SMC is truly the best CC in the United States. I didn't finish my degree at a state college, and came back to academics later in life. SMC has been such a great experience, and even during COVID with everything pivoting to online, I've had an incredible experience returning to studies.

You will not find a better city college with more caring faculty anywhere in CA, and probably the country from what I have heard and seen, they live up to their reputation, at least in the science departments from my experience.

Genuinely a really great CC. Professors are great if you choose wisely, staff is more competent than most. Resources are great, the campus is really beautiful, and transferring/getting your associates is pretty easy. SUPER easy to get involved and meet people you have stuff in common with.

Great reputation but protect their professors more than their students. Complaints are sent to departments heads. IF they answer, its weeks later and responses are typically our hands are tied. Since COVID, not one of my professors had continued to give live lessons. Just short YouTube video clips that dont allow you to stop and ask for help.
